Bodycam Shows APD Cop Shoot, Kill Carjacking Suspect

555 Albuquerque, NM - APD has released the video of the deadly police shooting that left a teen carjacking suspect dead last week. It shows why the two officers felt the need to open fire within seconds of approaching the young man. APD says 19-year-old Jose Rodriguez tried to carjack a driver but gave up because he didn't know how to drive a stick. Police caught up with him just a few blocks away before the teen made a deadly decision. Officers were looking for Rodriguez near Central and Pennsylvania Tuesday morning last week after the alleged attempted carjacking. When they caught up to him a few blocks up Central, APD says he pulled a gun on an officer. Video from Officer Andrew Quillman's lapel camera shows what happened next. "Get your hands out of your pockets, stay down," screamed Officer Quillman. Quillman fired at Rodriguez several times. If you freeze his lapel cam video, it appears Rodriguez's arm is extended toward Quillman. Quillman yelled, "Shots fired, shots fired." The officer farther down the street has a better view. This is the video from Shawna Romero's lapel cam. She had a split second glance at Rodriguez. If you freeze her lapel camera video it also appears to show Rodriguez's arm extended toward Quillman. Romero fired her gun several times, at about the same time as Quillman. After Rodriguez is wounded both officers approach him and you can clearly see a gun on the ground next to him. Romero said, "Don't move dude, don't move." Quillman got the gun away from Rodriguez and the two officers waited for help. A couple minutes later other officers arrived to try to sort out what happened. Rodriguez died a few minutes later. Quillman said, "That motherf***er just missed me." Romero said, "I saw him right there pull out on Andrew and I shot once and he was already down. I think Andrew had got him."
