Police Disarm Suicidal Woman

555 Spokane, WA - Tuesday night Spokane Police Officers disarmed a suicidal woman who was holding a knife to her throat before she was able to hurt herself or anyone else. Police say they actually responded to the woman's home, in the 1200 block of East Decatur, to arrest her boyfriend on a domestic violence charge.The woman, who is not being identified, did not want her boyfriend arrested. She was escorted outside the home to calm down. Officers eventually let her back in the home, where she quickly grabbed a knife and held it to her throat. She then began fighting and struggling with a third person in the home, not her boyfriend, who was trying to disarm her. Officers then stepped in to help, using a Taser to stun the woman, which gave the other officers the opportunity to safely take the woman into custody.She was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. Spokane Police say this is a good example of officers choosing not to use lethal force during a tense, rapidly evolving situation.
