Man Gets More Than 6 Years For Pointing Fake Gun At Cops

555 Lancashire, UK - Ashley Gerrard as sentenced at Preston Crown Court today (26th April) and will now spend more than six years behind bars. It follows an incident on 22nd December 2015 when police were called to reports of a domestic assault at an address on Mill Lane in Coppull. Reports suggested a man had made off from the scene and officers later stopped a Ford Focus at an address on Ribbleton Avenue in Preston. As the male got out of the car, the driver pointed a handgun at officers and pulled the trigger. Fortunately the weapon did not discharge and no-one was hurt. The man was detained. A firearm was recovered and was later shown to be an imitation 8mm black and silver imitation handgun. Ashley Gerrard, 29, of Bruce Street, St Helens, was charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to resist lawful arrest. At an earlier hearing, he pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm, as well as to separate charges of assault and dangerous driving relating to other cases.
