Lubbock Police Release Bodycam Of Violent Arrest

555 Lubbock, TX - A video was made public on over the weekend that shows Lubbock Police involved in a violent struggle with a suspect who was then arrested. Lubbock Police on Monday released body cam video and 911audio on Monday. Police said in a written statement on Saturday, June 25 that officers responded to the report of an "an aggressive suspect threatening customers and staff" at Whataburger, 1702 19th Street. The written statement said, "Officer Mitchell attempted to perform a pat down of the suspect for possible weapons and the suspect punched Officer Mitchell in the face with a closed fist. "The written statement did not mention the officer's first name. Eliseo Padilla, 30, was charged with assault on a police officer and remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center as of Monday afternoon. Policesaid, "The suspect continued to strike the officers with a closed fist and he kicked a third officer multiple times. Officers used a Taser, but it had no effect on the suspect. "Officers were eventually able to take Padilla into custody. A child was inside Padilla's truck at the time. The 911 audio indicated that two employees of Whataburger were concerned that a man was being disruptive but the employees did not describe ongoing violence. The violence started when an officer told Padilla to take his hands out of his pockets, and put his hands on the top of his pickup truck.
