The Restored Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress "Nine-O-Nine" at Buchanan Field in Concord, CA, USA

555 Video I shot last summer of this impressive aircraft visiting Buchanan Field in Concord as part of the Wings of Freedom tour of 4 vintage WWII planes. From 1936 to 1945, 12,731 of these 4 engine heavy bombers were produced. This B-17G was built in Long Beach, CA. by the Douglas Aircraft Co. and delivered on April 7, 1945, to late for combat, it served as part of the Air/Sea 1st Rescue Squadron and later in the Military Air Transport Service. In April of 1952 it was subjected to the effects of 3 nuclear test explosions, after a 13 year "cool down" period it was sold to Aircraft Specialties Co. who restored it and for the next 20 years it flew as a fire bomber dropping water on forest fires. In 1986 it was sold to the Collings Foundation and restored back to it's WWII configuration. In August of 1987 it crashed upon landing at an airshow in Pennsylvania and suffered major damage. On
