Man jailed after drywall incorrectly tests positive for cocaine during traffic stop

555 A local construction worker spent three months in jail after bits of drywall in his car tested positive for cocaine during an Oviedo traffic stop and field test. An Oviedo PF officer pulled over Karlos Cashe, 57, at 9:45 p.m. on March 22 for driving without headlights. Following a discussion about his probation being 10PM, not 8PM, a drug-sniffing K-9 was brought to the scene. A small piece of suspected marijuana and a white substance that appeared to be crack cocaine were found in the car, police said. The substance, which Cashe said was drywall, tested positive for cocaine during a field test and Cashe was arrested on drug charges. The results came back on May 16, they showed that substance was negative for any kind of drugs, and in fact, drywall residue. It took another month until Cashe was released from jail on June 19.
