Mugger pummels 81-year-old woman

555 A heartless mugger beat up an 81-year-old woman in her West Village vestibule Friday night - stealing her handbag and leaving her collapsed on the tile floor. Police were seeking the craven crook early Saturday, and released a building surveillance video showing the attack. In the video, the mugger - dressed all in black, his face obscured by the hood of his sweatshirt - follows the silver-haired, elderly woman into her building at West 13th Street and Seventh Avenue. Inside the vestibule, he swings his fist five times at her head and face until she falls to the floor. He then grabs her handbag and bolts back out the door. The woman suffered bumps and bruises to her head and face, police said. She declined medical attention at the scene.
