Little Rock police release videos of shooting that led to charge against former officer .... justified sacking ? Or, justified shooting ?

555 Little Rock police released videos of a recently retired officer shooting a suspected thief last year, footage that police said contradicted the officer's account of what happened and led to a misdemeanor battery charge against him. The shooting occurred after Rudy Avila, 23, fled from a Home Depot where officers had tried to arrest him on suspicion of shoplifting. Avila ran to a nearby restaurant, stole a woman's car in and tried to drive away. Police said former officer Ralph Breshears, who retired from the department in December, fired into the Malibu and struck Avila twice. According to police accounts, Breshears shot Avila after Avila "drove toward officers in a threatening manner." But investigators, determined that "at no point was Breshears in any danger of being run over by the vehicle."He was arrested on a charge of third-degree battery Jan. 23 and has since pleaded not guilty.
