While Evansville Police originally thought the bystander killed during an active shooter situation Friday was shot at random, investigators now believe suspect Barry Freeman saw the man walking to a neighbor's house and thought he was law enforcement. Evansville Police Department released surveillance and body camera footage Tuesday of a man identified as Freeman firing an AR-15 and later a shotgun at Evansville and Vanderburgh County squad cars. Freeman was shot twice in the chest by city police detective Kyle Thiry about an hour after police arrived on-scene, according to the department. Freeman, 51, died Sunday night at a local hospital.
