Dashcam video released in suspected 'drowsy driving' double-fatal crash on US 93

555 Authorities have released dash camera video from last week's crash that killed two people on U.S. 93 northeast of Las Vegas. According to Nevada Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Malibu was stopped at a construction crew flagger, followed by a Nissan Titan pick-up truck, a Sterling Tractor Trailer and a Toyota Yaris, around 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 18. The video, which comes from the dash of the Sterling, shows the flagger trying to motion for an oncoming Peterbilt semi to stop, only for him to run out of the way as the Peterbilt collides with the vehicles stopped on the road. Troopers say the Peterbilt hit the read-end of the Toyota, and the force of the collision ejected both people who were inside. The Peterbilt then hit the Sterling, Nissan and Chevrolet before coming to a stop on the right-hand shoulder. The driver and passenger of the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Robert Barns, 50, and Christopher Markley, 34, both of Idaho. Investigators believe drowsy driving was a factor in the crash, though no charges have been filed yet and the investigation is ongoing, according to NHP.
