Bodycam Footage Shows Glendale Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect

555 Phoenix, AZ - The family of a man shot and killed by Glendale police last year has filed a $5 million claim against the city. Attorney Jody Broaddus, representing the family of Patrick Sanchez, said Thursday the suit had been filed in Maricopa County Superior Court within the one-year statute of limitations and was referred to federal court. A day earlier, Glendale police released 911 calls and graphic body-camera footage of the July 1, 2017, incident near 83rd and Glendale avenues. The department also released documentation of the investigation. The incident started out as a 911 call, with an unidentified woman telling police she was being held hostage inside her apartment by a man and a woman armed with a gun and a knife. Officers arrived and began interviewing witnesses, one of whom was Sanchez. At the start of the 46-second , officers could be seen talking with Sanchez, 23, as he leaned on a car. The confrontation became violent, and Sanchez was taken to the ground. As he struggled, he could be heard saying, "I'm not doing anything." As officers continued attempting to subdue Sanchez, one yelled, "He's reaching for something! He's reaching for it!" The struggle continued until the shots that killed Sanchez can be heard. Police said afterward that Sanchez had a gun hidden in his sock. Glendale police would not comment further on the shooting because to the lawsui
