Fight at Go Bananas; seeks to shut down the amusement center

555 A cellphone showing an altercation between two women inside a children's restaurant and amusement venue in has sparked an online petition seeking the closure of the business. The , on Saturday, shows two women striking each other and large objects being thrown inside Go Bananas, 4516 N. Harlem Ave., while children are playing games nearby. A woman clutching a young child can be seen running past the melee. Within hours of the appearing on Facebook, an anonymous petition entitled "Support the closure of Go Bananas in Norridge" appeared on Change.org, calling for citizens to hold the business' owner, Jerrold Marks, accountable and "force his hand on closing establishment." The petition is addressed to Norridge Village President James Chmura, village trustees Dominic Falagario, Donald Gelsomino and Jacqueline Gregorio, and Marks. As of Monday afternoon, more than 3,000 people had signed the petition. Chmura on Monday said he had not seen the petition, but, following Saturday's alleged incident at the establishment, has been in contact with the village's legal counsel to determine what, if anything, can be done regarding the business, which has been owned by Marks since 2005 and bills itself as "the ultimate family entertainment experience" on its website. "The people who are signing this petition, they have to understand the legal ramifications," Chmura said. "You have to follow your ordinances. You just don't close [a business] because then you open the village up for legal liability." He added: "I need to step very slowly and make the right decision once we get the facts in from our police and our attorneys." Norridge Police Chief David Disselhorst said officers responded to a call of a fight at Go Bananas shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. A man told police he was hit in the head with a chair while attempting to break up an altercation among party guests inside the establishment, but did not want to pursue charges against anyone, Disselhorst said. Go Bananas personnel also declined to sign complaints, but asked that the party guests leave the business, the police chief said. Paramedics were called and treated the man at the scene, Disselhorst said. What prompted the fight and exactly how many people were involved in a physical altercation that night is not known, Disselhorst said. No firearms were involved, he added.
