Greenville man sentenced to 11 years after video shows attack in county jail

555 A Greenville man was sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to repeatedly stomping on another man while housed in the Greenville County jail. Bobby Joe Reid Jr., 49, pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison by Judge Donald Hocker, according to online court records. Prosecutors said Reid was housed at the Greenville County Detention Center on Jan. 2, 2017, when he assaulted a man there by punching then stomping on him repeatedly, according to a statement from the 13th Circuit Solicitor's Office. The victim suffered severe injuries as a result, according to the statement. The assault was captured on surveillance and was investigated by the detention center. Reid was arrested on Jan. 10, 2017 and initially charged with attempted murder, according to online court records.
