Man high on meth dies in police custody

555 On April 8th 2018, at around 4:15 a.m. in LAPD's Van Nuys area, offices were driving their vehicle when they observed a man lying down in the driveway of a gas station located at 7200 Woodman Avenue. The man was identified as Jacobo Cedillo. When officers approached Cedillo they suspected he was under the influence of an unknown drug. They handcuffed him and took him to an area of safety. As officers were questioning him, Cedillo began to act erratically and attempted to break away from the officers' grasp. The officers requested an additional unit to respond to their location. Whilst trying to control Cedillo, he and both officers fell to the ground. One of the officers used his body weight to control Cedillo. During the incident Cedillo lost consciousness. Mr. Cedillo was treated by the Los Angeles fire department at scene and was transported to Valley Presbyterian Hospital. During his stay at the hospital a preliminary drug test revealed methamphetamine in his system. Unfortunately, on April 13th 2019, Mr. Cedillo passed away. A cause of death is pending the completion of the coroner's investigation.
