Dashcam Video Shows Moment Suspect Opened Fire At Officers

555 Newly released footage from La Vergne police shows the moments in which police said Darrien Williams, 21, shot at officers. Williams led police on a chase from Rutherford to Davidson County on Monday, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including MNPD assisted in the capture of Williams. The chase first began after Smyrna police responded to an incident Monday morning in which they said Williams fired a shot in his apartment in the city. Smyrna officers later located Williams in his black Chrysler 200 sedan, and he "recklessly sped away," according to a Nashville police news release. Smyrna officers then asked the La Vergne Police Department to assist in capturing the suspect, who then drove from Rutherford County to Davidson County. Eventually, a La Vergne police SUV driven by Lieutenant Chris Goins struck Williams' car, forcing it into a yard near the intersection of Smith Springs Road and Castlegate Drive. It was then that police said Williams began to fire at Goins, who dove from the SUV and escaped injury. Goins and La Vergne Sergeant William Watson then returned fire, and Williams is shown running away unscathed on foot. The video begins from the perspective of a police car with its lights blaring as it chases down Williams. The car then pulls up to the area in which Williams' car was forced off the road by Goins' SUV. Goins can then be seen leaping from the vehicle to evade fire and returning fire. Williams is then seen running from the scene on foot. According to the Metro police news release, Williams' three children, aged 3, 2 and 9 months, were found in his vehicle after he ran away. The children were not harmed in the shooting, but were transported to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for evaluation, the release stated. The release then stated that Metro police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood and began searching, eventually locating Williams inside a home on Alicia Lane. He surrendered but would not speak with detectives, according to the release. He is currently jailed in lieu of $309,500 on charges attempted murder of a police officer, felony evading arrest and three counts of child endangerment.
