Police respond to welfare check about drunk man with wheelbarrow; ends with pursuit and crash

555 A welfare call about an allegedly intoxicated man walking shirtless around homes in Massillon with a wheelbarrow ended Thursday with a police pursuit and crash. Police responded to the 1300 block of 3rd Street Northeast just after 6:30 a.m. When officers arrived, the man jumped into a nearby Dodge pickup truck and drove off. Dash camera footage of the pursuit shows the truck driving erratically through the city before crashing into a utility pole and stopping in a ditch in Jackson Township, authorities said. The video shows the man crawl out of the passenger side window and run away with his arms flailing. Police nabbed him after a short foot chase. The man was charged with OVI and fleeing and eluding, according to police.
